Johanna will share a brief history of cannabis, one of the oldest (if not the oldest) plant under human cultivation, including how regional climates impacted the plant’s evolution.
She will paint a picture of the current state of genetics of the plant—unrivaled in anything else in horticulture, as it's not yet gone through modern breeding practices. Johanna will offer guidance in how to choose cultivars for your garden.
Myths and misinformation when it comes to cultivation, coming from 100-ish years of prohibition, will be discussed and corrected.
Johanna will overview how to grow cannabis from start to finish including: seed versus clone selection, site placement, fertilizer and soil considerations, IPM, water schedules and harvest.
Because post-processing is an important part of achieving a usable end crop, Johanna will present optimal conditions for a dry room.
It should be noted that Johanna’s approach is outdoor-only and garden-scale. She grows for a love of the plant, not with a goal of maximizing yield. The techniques she most adheres to are those that are easiest, simplest, and most tried-and-true in the garden.
Learning Objectives:
- Learn IPM as it pertains to cannabis- most common problems and best practice solutions.
- Learn brief history of cannabis including how regional climates impacted the plants evolution and how that relates to modern day cultivars.
- Understand best practices for post harvest drying, curing, and storing.
